Art for the discerning collector
Most people have pictures on their walls, but few own original works of art. While work that is handcrafted is highly valued, only the select investor purchases wall décor conceived of and crafted by a skilled artisan.
Recently I visited a friend in a hospital designed for preferred clientele. The elevators were decorated with ornate wooden trim. Moldings edged the ceilings. The floors were covered with expensive tiles and hardwood insets. The chairs and sofas were upholstered in rich leather. Everything was elegant, refined, and visually interesting—except the artwork.
Who would notice?
But it's art that patients gaze at as they wait.
It's art that guests evaluate as they enter one's home.
And its art that draws us in—that inspires us, or offers our busy minds something to contemplate—as we relax with a glass of fine wine or a steaming latte.
As an artist, I want each of my artworks to be embraced and adopted. Each is an offspring to be placed in the best of homes—to be cherished and cared for; their memories forwarded as heirlooms. They're my offerings to the world, and their owners' legacy.
It is, after all, the collector who decides which artist becomes famous.
Each time a piece is purchased, it increases the likelihood that future generations will see that artist's work in years to come. It's because of patrons that we still enjoy the work of Michelangelo, da Vinci, van Gogh, Monet, Dali, O'Keefe... The list goes on.
