Ann Salk Rosenberg - U.S.
International Art Competition finalist
Judge's Statement
Ann Salk Rosenberg submitted three images to the competition, Follow Your Heart to Realize Your Dreams, Time Flies, and Artist in the Museum. The first thing I noticed was her strong, confident voice. Her autobiographical stories are told to us in a highly personalized style that is somewhere between folk art and abstractionism. Her palette is unusual. It's almost as if she welcomes the child back into her heart, and picks up the crayon that best suits her mood. Areas of her paintings appear to explode into fragments.
In her fascinating biography, Ann longed to attend art school but was unable. So much the better for us, or her voice and unusual perspective might have been subdued by the do's and don'ts of professional training. Left to her own devices, she's making artistic statements that are truly unique and refreshingly unapologetic.
